Matthew (our 4 year old son) is getting a lot of pleasure out of the train table his daddy made him.

My husband found it was very easy with your train table plans. He just went to our local building store with the measurements and they cut the wood for him (so he did not have to pull out all his tools - thank you for the great tip - he really appreciated that).

Once the table was assembled, we stained it to match the other wood in our home, and then I customized the table with cut-outs from a Thomas the Tank Engine peel and stick wall paper border and painted the top of the table myself.

I just painted it with a base-coat of dark green, and sponged on a light green for texture, and finally just painted some rivers/lakes free-hand... it was very easy!

And there is plenty of room for plastic storage containers underneath to hold my son's train equipment, as well as his other toys.

We have had hours of fun together playing with his train set on his very own train table (which is great for me, too... as I do not have to bend down on the floor anymore!! LOL!) This table can grow with our son's interests, too... electric trains, race car tracks, Lego, the possibilities are endless.
