Tammy's Train TableClick here see more details about the toy wooden train plans . . .
Hi Madeline. We finished the table in 10 days (is that a record???)! We ran into a few snags along the way,... Home Depot's Home Center cut several of the wood pieces the wrong length...after we thought we were done, my father-in-law informed us that the table was not square, so several steps had to be redone...the border I used required a wider frame than called for in the plans...and, my son got his hands on the open paint can and threw it across the basement.
The plans were pretty easy to follow, considering this was the first time my husband and I have ever built anything together. I do think that had we not run into the delays, we could have completed the construction of the table in 3 hours. Once the construction was complete, it was up to me to paint and decorate the table. With my busy holiday schedule, I didn't have much free time to do my part. But...I finally finished up on December 23, and the results were great! My son loves the table, and he has played with it constantly since Christmas Eve. I checked out tables at Toys-R-Us , Target, and even THE Thomas the Train table, and none compare to our table. The store versions look and feel cheap. Our table is very sturdy, and has the custom look that I wanted. I'm sure that had we purchased any manufactured table, it would have eventually ended up at the curb. Knowing that we made this for our son, makes it worth more than any store bought version! I know that we'll have this table for years, and eventually our grandchildren will play with their trains on it... Happy Holidays.
