Hi! We are so excited to open this blog up to parents, teachers, friends, neighbors, relatives and grandparents who have use train table plans to build a play table because of the love they have for their child / children. Over the last 5 years we have have over 1550 people worldwide use our plans to create an amazing play space so their children could have hours of creative play.
This is so important because as Virginia Mae Axline reported in her landmark study, Play Therpay, “a child’s play is his work”.

While toy train events and train shows are held throughout the year, July is a banner month for these events. With the Fourth of July celebration and the onslaught of summer vacationers you are not going to have to look hard to find a toy train event to attend. However, before you hit these events you need to prepare yourself for a few challenges.
The first challenge of July train events is that you are going to have to deal with summer crowds. This means that parking is going to be more difficult and expensive and navigating your way through the show is going to be more difficult.
Another challenge that you will face will be getting to the prized toy trains before someone else does. To avoid this problem you will need to study the layout of the toy train show before you arrive, if possible, and to develop a plan of attack. This will usually mean that you will need to focus your tour of the site on the booths that you are the most interested in. For example, if you want to buy classic toy train table plans
The third challenge that you will need to deal with is the weather. The summer months are hot, humid and potentially stormy. These issues need to be planned for, especially if you have a hard time dealing with the heat or if you will be attending the show with children.
Tips
To make July toy train events more enjoyable plan your visit ahead of time. Learn where things will be and where the best items will be. Next pack for the weather and climate. Bring water, snacks and cooling devices, if they are allowed. If not, plan on buying food and drink at the event. It is important to stay hydrated and fueled during your summer toy train event outing.

Over the last couple of years I have talked about toy train events and various toy train activities that you can complete. This last weekend I ran across a family toy train table project that I thought was very sweet and endearing. This table was covered with a track that had stops on it that were important to the family, i.e. grandma’s house, the elementary school, the family home and a military base in Iraq where the dad was stationed. Next to each stop was a little sign that provided information and a picture related to the stop.
This is a great project for military families, divorced families and any family that want to find connectedness. To complete this project you will need toy train table plans, photographs, decoupage gel, a sponge brush, building supplies and paint.
After constructing your table as a family you can figure out what stops to add to your track. These stops need to have meaning to your kids. For example, if you have a divorced family structure then you will want to provide one stop for mom’s house and one stop for dad’s house. If you are a military family then you can include stops at the military base in the U.S., and if the military mom or dad is deployed, then you can also include a stop at the overseas military base.
For each stop you are going to create a little signs. This sign will include a photograph and a description of the stop. The description can include an address, a simple city name, a country name, as well as information about why it is important, such as “this is where daddy is stationed” or “this is grandma’s house.” The signs that you make can either be decoupaged directly onto the track board, or you can build 3D signs that can be placed ontop of the track board.

June is a great month to check out local and regional toy train events. The kids are out of school, the weather is warm but not hot and there are lots of people who recently cleaned out their garages, attics and storage spaces so there are lots of toy trains to choose between. If you want to attend a June toy train event then this is a checklist for your to use.
(1) Know what you are looking for. Create a list of the specific toy trains or accessories that you need for your collections, or select a brand of trains to look for such as Brio Trains.
(2) Know the layout of the toy train show. Usually a venue map will be available either online or at the site of the train show. Review this document and map out the areas that you will want to explore first. (Hint: Hit the areas that have the items you are most interested in first so you can find your items before someone else buys them.)
(3) Create a plan of attack. Identify what you need to get done in priority of their importance. Make sure you plan when to eat and how long you will be staying at the toy train show.
(4) Set a budget for your purchases. Start by establishing an overall budget for what you have to spend during the event. Then identify how much money you are willing to spend on each item on your wish list. Try to stick to this budget and remember to bring enough cash to cover your purchases, as many toy train vendors will only accept cash, although some will take credit cards.

One of the most attractive characteristics of a toy train table is their longevity. These tables are built to last. However, as you kids grow their interests are going to change and the use of the table is also going to change. To extend the use of your toy train table you will want to redesign its look several times throughout your children’s lives.
The first design that you will add to your toy train table will be the initial design. You will base the paint choices and characters that you add to your table’s design on what your little kids are interested in right now. This may be a cartoon character, a storybook character or simply a color palette.
The first re-design that you will need to make will come when your child’s interests change. This usually happens when they enter the five to six year old range. At this point you will update the look of your toy train table to make it more kindergarten friendly and less pre-school.
After your first child outgrows the toy train table or when you have other kids you may also need to re-design the look of the table. This is particularly true if you are passing down a toy train table from a boy to a girl or from a girl to a boy. When updating the look of the table you will want to focus on colors and characters that your kids enjoy.
Saving money on these redesign projects is not difficult to do. Simply look for clearance products like wallpaper stick on, stickers, paint and stencils.

March is usually when I start to feel the drive to spring clean. While the temperatures are still brisk in March, the weather is usually cooperative, at least in my neck of the woods, for clearing out clutter. If you are like many people in this country, you not only are ready to clear out the clutter in your home, but you are also open to making a little money in the process.
As you clean out your closets, attics, basements and storage areas in your home make several piles. One pile will consist of items that can be sold at a garage or rummage sale, one pile of items that can be donated to Good Will or other charity shops and one pile of items that are more valuable and that can be sold at an online auction or toy show. Each of these piles will have value for you. The garage sale and auction piles will have cash values, while the donation pile will have tax savings value.
when selecting items for your auction pile look for collectibles, such as Brio trains and other toys. Make sure you do not damage these items when putting them aside. Also make sure you label the pile as auction or special sale so that anyone helping you does not throw them away or put them into the wrong pile. This mistake can impact your profit margin.
When you are ready to start getting rid of items you will want to create an inventory of the items you have available. This inventory will include a description of the item, its estimated value and where it will be sold or donated. You will also want to leave a fourth column to the right where you can write in the actual price that you got for the item.
