From maple syrup to Maple Landmark history with
award winning toy wooden trains!

Michael Rainville was the odd sheep of the Rainville family. In a family where maple syrup was their passion, Michael Rainville had another attachment. He was interested in working with wood, lots of wood. Everyday after school and during the summertime when most children would run around under the sun, Michael Rainville would patiently work on his wooden projects. Soon, he realized he was able to earn some extra money off of his passion. In 1979, he began selling his creations at fairs and small stores near where he lived in Vermont. However, it wasn’t until after college, he decided that he would go into his woodcrafting business full-time.

CARVING SUCCESS

After he made the conscious decision to embark on his woodcrafting journey, Michael began planning his business venture. He created a company called Maple Landmark Woodcraft (named as an extension of his family’s maple syrup company Maple Landmark Homestead.) Business was booming. In time, Michael started to expand his business. Maple Landmark Woodcraft soon added Troll’s Toy Workshop to his company. This expanded his product list with the addition of alphabet blocks and such objects that involved the alphabet.

One of the greatest additions to the product family was the product called Name Trains. Name Trains saw so much popularity in the year 1993, that Maple Landmark Woodcraft decided to launch a whole line of trains based on the Name Trains. Since some toy railroad tracks could not fit with certain toy trains, Maple Landmark Woodcraft created trains that would be adaptable with various wooden tracks. As 1994 rolled around, the wooden trains gained color in their appearance.

MANCALA, BLOCKS, AND SCHOOLHOUSES, OH MY!

Maple Landmark never stopped their expansions. After moving down from the mountains in Vermont, Michael’s Maple Landmark business invited the Vermont Wooden Game Company to become a part of his family. With the addition of Vermont Wooden Game Company, the game Mancala was added to Maple Landmark’s product list. Later, wooden toy producers Vermont Country Blocks and the Montgomery Schoolhouse joined the family. Maple Landmark also added an extension to their facility in order to support the growing number of clients and products. As of now, the Maple Landmark sells their toys to toy shops and gift shops around the country. They even have a clientele list in other countries from around the world.

As a business that started from the rural mountains within the town Lincoln in Vermont, Michael Landmark had beaten the odds of failure and established a prominent business in this day and age.
