Did you know that The Good Toy Guide recommends Brio trains as one of five educational toys for preschoolers? They state that brio train is,

"A train with interactive details that encourages children to master small movements and hand-eye coordination. Controlling the train and constructing the tracks creates an awareness of cause and effect, early scientific understanding and basic mathematical concepts."

Other companies also produce outstanding train sets and accessories that meet these criteria and are considered educational toys for children.

Before we begin, I want to let you in on a secret.... there isn't such thing as an educational toy. Nope. Toys are props. It is in the playing that determines how beneficial a particular toy is to the child who is playing with it.

Toys don't teach cognitive skills. What they do is encourage children to practice them, give them an outlet to be creative and imaginative. And that is what makes excellent made toys important. A toy that is not well made causes a lot of frustration when the child cannot easily manipulate it.

That brings us to the next issue. Parents, if you are going to invest in a wooden toy train and do not have a table for the train set, the tracks will continually get messed up on the floor and your kids will really become frustrated. Soon, they will not play with their train set.
